GWiCE sponsors - RMI, GWNet, EWiEn, Think Policy, Purpose Hive, EnergyHaus Africa

Program Overview

Launched in 2025, the RMI Global Women in Clean Energy (GWiCE) Fellowship is an innovative initiative designed to catalyze a more inclusive and equitable clean energy workforce.

The program offers a comprehensive approach to capacity building that supports women leaders driving change in their communities, strengthens their networks, and helps them in more rapidly advancing clean energy projects — contributing to the broader impact of an equitable, gender-inclusive and fast-tracked energy transition. The GWiCE fellowship has been recognized among 60 innovations, from 900 submissions, featured in the 2026 UN Science, Technology, and Innovation Solutions Book.

The Global Women in Clean Energy Fellowship’s inaugural cohort of 50 fellows started in July 2025 in Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Zambia, all Africa Minigrids Program participating countries, and concluded in December 2025. The second cohort of the Global Women in Clean Energy Fellowship kicked off with 35 fellows in November 2025 in Indonesia and concluded in June 2026. The third GWiCE cohort is currently active, until October 2026, with more than 65 fellows across Ethiopia, Nigeria, Zambia, Madagascar, Comoros, South Africa, and Kenya.
